New Year's Dance at La Grange
New Year's festivities culminated in a week long Christmas celebration on each estate in which the slaves elected Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses for an all night dance. This was one of the few chances the slaves had to emulate their masters or to poke fun at them using the creole dialectt in verse and song. |
